Education is a group exercise.  I am mulling the ideas of  students taking responsibility for their own learning, but I believe that a fantastic number of groups interact in schools.  Each class, group, department, building, team has its own culture.

As a younger teacher, I drastically underestimated the importance of establishing a culture in my classes, and it is still one of my greatest struggles.

As I have matured, I am beginning to accept my responsibility in helping create a culture of adults in my department, faculty and school.

In the last several years, as I have begun to follow blogs with Google Reader, and receive vast amounts of ideas through Twitter, I am re-evaluating what kinds of culture I want to establish around me and hopefully will begin to consider my responsibility in contributing to the larger discussions.
